Hailsham Swimming Club is a friendly, family orientated club serving Hailsham and its surrounding area. Formed in 1989, and is still going strong to this day, providing a safe environment in which the teachers can develop the swimmers up to a competitive standard.

At Hailsham Swimming Club we continually develop teaching and coaching skills, providing swimmers of all abilities the opportunity to compete or undertake swimming as a sociable leisure activity, within a friendly club.

Hailsham Swimming Club aims to become a top competitive squad within the County, providing opportunities for all our swimmers to excel at County, Regional and National level.

The club had a record number of swimmers qualifying for the 2014 Sussex County Swimming Championships. 22 swimmers represented Hailsham Swimming Club in a total of 167 events. They did the club and themselves proud, attaining over 100 personal best times and collecting 55 top three places. Ten year old Milly Widdop also won the British Age Group Category (BAGCATS) title, for the second year running.

Frankie Lee, Milly Widdop, Joe Golding, Maddison Drury, Bethany Collins, Evan Draper, Ben Kebbell, Nathan Pashler and Craig Steenhoff all qualified for Regional events in 2014. Craig also swam at the National Masters Championships. These high level achievements reflect the dedication by coaching staff and swimmers to reach their full potential.

Many of our swimmers take part in open meets all over the country and Hailsham ‘Hornets’ regularly compete in the Sussex League, against other swimming clubs in the county. Last season we finished third in division 2, a very proud achievement for the club and success that we intend to build on for this coming season.

Sensational Sussex League performance promotes Hailsham to Division 1!
Sussex League 05.07.14
On 5th July 2014 Hailsham Swimming Club participated in their third and final round of this year’s Sussex League competition, at the Summerfield Leisure Centre in Hastings. Facing local rivals Eastbourne and Hastings, this contest was always going to be an exciting conclusion to the season. This was certainly the case with all of our swimmers putting in brilliant performances, and collecting enough points to see Hailsham promoted into Division 1.

The Hailsham made it clear from the start that they were real contenders to win the round and after 30 events were drawing points with Hastings, and even edged into the lead by event 40. Hasting’s managed to pick up additional points in the final races to win the gala overall with 377 points, Hailsham followed closely behind to gain 2nd place with 350 points and Eastbourne finished 3rd with 283.

Despite finishing second, Hailsham’s gala points over the three rounds of competition throughout the season were high enough to see them finish convincingly in second place overall in Division two, and secure a promotion into the top flight of the Sussex League. This is a massive achievement and an exciting new challenge for the club. All the coaching staff and swimmers are looking forward to competing in Division 1 next year.

Congratulations to Bethany Collins on attaining the top girl trophy at the Hastings Open Meet on 12th July
