Child Protection Policy


Statement

Hailsham Swimming Club recognises its responsibility to promote children’s happiness and to safeguard them from harm.

Club Responsibilities

To safeguard and promote the interests and enjoyment of the children with in the club.

To take all practical steps to protect the club children from harm, discrimination and degrading treatment.

To respect the rights and feelings of all children.

Club Principles and Policy

  • The child’s welfare is paramount.
  • All children regardless of age, culture, disability, gender or sexuality have the right to protection from abuse.
  • All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to quickly and appropriately.
  • All club personnel will adhere to the clubs anti-bullying policy.
  • The club ensure that all personnel who have contact with children undertake a CRB check (Criminal Records Bureau via the ASA).
  • If required two adults of the same gender to check on swimmers in changing room areas for their own protection as well as the welfare of the swimmers.  (Two male in boys and two female in girls which have been CRB checked).
  • Club personnel have a duty of care to swimmers during all swimming sessions and events until they leave the venue.
  • The club has a nominated Club Welfare Officer.  His/Her name will be made known to all members to whom concerns of a child protection nature should be raised (In strict confidence).
  • Anyone under the age of 18 years will be considered a child for the purpose of this policy.

Hailsham Swimming Club will ensure that:-

  • All children are listened to and respected as individuals.
  • ASA guidelines on child protection procedures are followed and copies of this document will be available on request.
  • ASA code of ethics are followed.
  • ASA guidelines for use of photographic/filming equipment will be adhered to.
  • The club will support any one, who in good faith reports his or her concerns that a child is at risk, or may actually be abused.
  • The club will seek to ensure its members are trained in child protection awareness.
