Code of Conduct - Training Sessions

Swimmers are expected to train in order to improve their development and competitive abilities. Training sessions are not for social or leisure swimming. This doesn’t mean that the swimmers can not enjoy the company of their fellows but once the session starts their actions should be geared to the instructions given to them by coaching/teaching staff.

• At all times swimmers will obey the instructions given to them by the coaching/teaching staff.
• When authorised by the coaching/teaching staff, club captains may also issue instructions to other swimmers during training sessions.
• Swimmers are expected to be ready to start the training session at the appropriate time.
• Swimmers should not leave the poolside without first obtaining the agreement of coaching/teaching staff.
• Swimmers are expected to complete the training sessions at the finish time, not before. Permission to leave the session early will usually only be granted in a few circumstances:
  • If the swimmer is unwell, if the parent/guardian allows them to, have to be elsewhere, with parents direction, recent injury or illness
  • If a swimmer is unwell and the parent/guardian is not present the swimmer will stay on poolside where they can remain under the care of the coaching/teaching staff until the parent/guardian arrives

Once away from the poolside, responsibility of swimmers rest with the parents/guardians. This is especially relevant in changing rooms and other public areas.

Minor or one off incidents of poor discipline, disruptive behavior or inadequate commitment during training sessions will normally be dealt with by the coaching or teaching staff during or after the training session.
Persistent or serious incidents of poor discipline, disruptive behavior or inadequate commitment during training
sessions will be brought to attention of the clubs committee. In extreme circumstances the committee may agree to exclusion, either temporarily or permanently, of the swimmer/swimmers from club activity.
Furthermore, if there is a problem in the changing rooms of which needs to be sorted out we strongly advise that two or more persons enter the changing rooms for child and parent protection.
